Manchester based Drum and Bass producer Dub Phizix began his obsession with music over 20 years ago. Inspired along the way by a diverse collection of artists ranging from The Yardbirds to A Tribe Called Quest, through to Photek and Bugz in the Attic. Dub Phizix, (or George to his mum) would spend hours annoying his neighbours with a Guitar, a Tape Deck and his Dad’s collection of 7″ Records and in 2000 made their lives even harder when he began making Drum and Bass.

10 years into his career of music construction and Dub Phizix is an accomplished producer having made music in a variety of styles for MTV, BBC, Nokia and 4Music. Dub Phizix has released music on high profile and respected labels such as Exit, Commercial Suicide, Soul:R, Critical, Dispatch and Ingredients with Mixmag calling his music ‘Essential material’

2011 has seen the total domination of the Drum and Bass scene from a tune called ‘Marka’. Penned by Dub Phizix alongside regular collaborator Skeptical with guest vocals from Strategy (of Broken English), ‘Marka’ adhered to no known recent stylistic formulas. A rare vocal treat in Drum and Bass, ‘Marka’ marries staccato dancehall like rhythms with slamming bass hits and Strategys unintelligible but potent rhymes blast this off kilter anthem into other worlds. True underground Drum and Bass in 2011 will be remembered for the impact ‘Marka’ has had on this music.

Dub Phizix has also collaborated with Future Cut, Marcus Intalex, Loxy, MC DRS, and Stray and has remixed for Panjabi MC, Skittles and Chimpo. His music is played nightly by high profile DJs such as dBridge, Goldie, Marky, Fabio, Marcus Intalex, S.P.Y, Spectrasoul and many more.

FRIDAY 30th MARCH @ THE REGISTRY

Acquiring a love for the breakbeat through jazz and funk records, Break took to the drums at a young age, learning piano along the way and taking to the turntables at the age of fourteen before progressing to his own productions at sixteen. Crisp breaks, heavy bass and effortless rhythm & flow have always been stable marks of his productions, making him a firm favourite with a variety of the scene…s top DJs from the beginning.

Launching his own label, Symmetry Recordings in 2006, Break honed and polished his sound with each single and released his fist album, also entitled ‘Symmetry’ in 2008. Featuring forays into ambient, dubstep, funk, hip hop, house and soul amongst an arsenal of sure-fire drum & bass, ‘Symmetry’ earned Break an army of new fans from outside the d&b world with tracks picked up by the likes of techno legends Laurent Garnier and Josh Wink.

Two years later Break is set to raise the bar further still via his second LP; ‘Resistance’. Featuring collaborations with No U-Turn mastermind Nico, Bristol’s DJ Die, super-duo Calyx & Teebee, DNAudio cohorts Silent Witness and Survival, Shogun Audio’s SpectraSoul and vocalists Kyo and SP:MC, the album offers a glorious journey through the spectrum of Break’s styles and influences and a clear indication of where his talents will lead him next.
