The University Of Portsmouth Drum and Bass Society, first kicked of years ago and was the brain child of Spectrasoul in his early years of University at Portsmouth.
After a few years with no president in charge the society was put to rest, only to be resurrected in 2006 by James Braid (DJ Bate). With help from his close friends, Lauren Jones, Mo Taha, Ian Harris who were all massively into their drum ad bass. The society started of with a small following of drum and bass fanatics and throughout the course of Bates presidency build a good base of loyal friends & fans. The societies Not-For-Profit philosophy meant that every event could be priced as cheaply as possible, including even further discount for the society members!
In the first year, UP.dnbs club night was know as Drum All Over Your Bass. We hosted a residency at Club 8 for year, during this time we were able to build a bigger following in Portsmouth. In 2008 we moved to Highlight (Formerly Jonglours) and made the event a weekly one. During this exciting time, we are able to bring down the likes of Brookes Brothers, DJ Clipz, Shimon, Sigma, G-Dub, The Force, Alix Perez, Cyantific and Artificial Intelligence.
In 2009 the Reins were passed over to the societies resident DJ, Tru:Bass (Sam Hill), who alongside a close committee (Mo Taha, Ian Harris & Tim Casey) put months worth of hard work, dedication and passion into the organisation and promotion of the society, delivering high quality events at great value. UP.dnb teamed up with local promoters Sumo & Breakneck on certain events to bring down even bigger names to Portsmouth such as DJ Marky, Nero, Sub Focus, Cyantific and Noisia. This collaboration helped up elevate UP.dnbs and Portsmouth reputations of hosting quality dnb events. The society also got involved in a range of events and activities including a coach trip to Hospitality Bournemouth, Free parties, Society Carnivals & After Parties.
In 2010 it was time for him to hand over the reigns. Mo Taha took over as president in September 2010. During the past year UP.dnb has left the big expensive acts for Breakneck who restarted their events at South Parade Pier, and focused on bringing down quality dnb acts such SPY, Commix, Lenzman, Artificial Intelliegence and Utah Jazz.
UP.dnb will back in september with new presidents Dan Steward and Ben Cantlon. To join the society, come and see them at Freshers Fayre! Plenty of events forthcoming, as well as coach trips and dj competitions.
